X–RAY EMISSION OF THE PULSAR–Be STAR BINARY PSR 1259–63*

چکیده

X–rays are detected from the pulsar–Be star binary PSR 1259−63 only after apastron passage. We suggest that the X–rays result from accretion on to the pulsar magnetosphere of matter captured from the Be star wind. The capture efficiency changes markedly at this phase, in line with the observations, provided that the wind is slow (∼ sonic) at large distances from the Be star. The Evolutionary Status of Psr 1259 { 63

The PSR 1259{63 system is unique in that it is the rst radio pulsar found to be in a binary system with a massive main sequence companion. As such, it may be the evolutionary missing link connecting the radio pulsars to the X-ray emitting Be binaries. In this paper, we consider the conditions under which PSR 1259{63 may be the progenitor of the less eccentric, more slowly rotating X-ray Be bina...

X-ray emission from the PSR B1259–63 system near apastron

The PSR B1259–63 system contains a 47 ms radio pulsar in a highly eccentric binary with a Be-star companion. Strongly time variable X-ray emission was reported from this system as the pulsar was near apastron in 1992-early 1993. The variability was primarily deduced from an apparent non-detection of the PSR B1259-63 system during a first pre-apastron ROSAT observation in February 1992. We have ...

Detection of X – Ray Emission from the PSR 1259 – 63 / SS 2883 Binary System ∗

Nonpulsed but variable X-ray emission has been detected from the binary system containing the radio pulsar PSR 1259–63 during two pointed ROSAT observations, taken five months apart. This 47.7 ms radio pulsar is in a highly eccentric (2 ∼ .85) binary system with the 10 to 15 M ̄ Be star SS2883. It is the first radio pulsar found to be in a binary system with a massive main sequence companion; it...

Hadronic model for radio - to - TeV γ - ray emission from PSR B 1259

We discuss the implications of the recent Xray and TeV γ-ray observations of the PSR B1259–63 system (a young rotation powered pulsar orbiting a Be star) for the theoretical models of interaction of pulsar and stellar winds. We show that previously considered models in which the pulsar wind is purely electron loaded have problems to account for the observed behaviour of the system in the TeV an...

Modelling the gamma - ray emission from PSR B 1259 − 63

The high-energy gamma-ray emission discovered using the H.E.S.S. telescopes from the binary system PSR B1259 −63, is modelled using an extension of the approach that successfully predicted it. We find that the simultaneous INTEGRAL and H.E.S.S. data permit both a model with dominant radiative losses, high pulsar wind Lorentz factor and modest efficiency as well as one with dominant adiabatic lo...
